Thanksgiving is the latest slasher movie whose story draws references from the tragedy of Black Friday, the day of massive discounts the day after Thanksgiving. So many horrible things happened at that time.
The movie stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon.
Here is the synopsis of Thanksgiving.
Thankgiving takes place in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 2022. At that time, people gather outside the RightMart supermarket to prepare for the massive Black Friday discounts.
The story begins with a focus on Jessica Wright (Nell Verlaque), the daughter of Thomas Wright (Rick Hoffman), the store's owner.
Thomas lets Jessica, her boyfriend and friends Evan (Tomaso Sanelli), Gabby (Addison Rae), Scuba (Gabriel Davenport) and Yulia (Jenna Warren) into the store early through a side door.
The crowd outside the store apparently saw Jessica and her friends who entered the store first. This caused the people outside to rush into the store. As a result, many people died due to overcrowding.
Amanda Collins (Gina Gershon) who is the wife of the supermarket manager, Mitch (Ty Olsson), was also killed in the chaos.
The incident then continued one year later, RightMart was preparing for Black Friday, despite protests from Mitch and several other residents.
At that moment, Jessica and her friends were tagged in an anonymous social media post. The post featured a photo of a Thanksgiving table with their names written around it.
This was the beginning of their nightmare. A waitress was attacked and killed by a black-clad figure wearing a John Carver-style mask.
The police later discovered that the waitress was present at the Black Friday riots. They then believe that the people involved in the riots were targeted by "John Carver."
Jessica was involved in the investigation and helped the police by handing over footage of the riot. This was done to find out the people involved.
As time went on, the victims of the mysterious massacre, now called The Carver, continued to grow. The Carver seems unstoppable as it continues to carry out increasingly heinous massacres.
The Carve also targets people around Jessica and no one knows the plan that is much bigger than the massacre.
Thanksgiving is a slasher film directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel: Part II) from a screenplay co-written with Jeff Rendell.
It is the third feature-length film adapted from one of the fictional stories in Grindhouse after Robert Rodriguez's Machete (2010) and Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun (2011).
Thanksgiving has been in theaters since November 22.
